How does the security deposit work when you rent a luxury car in Marbella?
When you rent a luxury car with MARBIORA in Marbella, the security deposit is held on a credit card in the main driver's name and released after the car comes back and has been checked. On the cars where the amount is set it is €4,000 or €5,000, stated in your booking confirmation before you pay anything.

What is a security deposit in car rental?
A security deposit is an amount held on your card for the length of the rental as a guarantee, and released once the car has been returned and checked. It is separate from the price of the rental: the price pays for the car, the delivery, the collection and the comprehensive insurance, while the deposit only stays blocked until the car is back.
With MARBIORA the deposit is always held on a credit card in the main driver's name. The rule follows from the documents checked at handover: the person whose card carries the deposit is the person named first in the rental agreement. Our article on the documents you need to rent a car in Marbella lists everything that is checked on the day.
How much is the deposit on each car?
The deposit depends on the model. On the cars where it is already set in our fleet, it is either €4,000 or €5,000. For the remaining cars the amount is agreed when you book, and in every case the exact figure is written in your booking confirmation before anything is paid.
| Deposit | Cars on the Costa del Sol |
|---|---|
| €4,000 | Audi RS3 Sedan, BMW M4 Competition Convertible, Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Mercedes-Benz S500 4MATIC Long, Mercedes-Benz GLE53 AMG, Range Rover Sport |
| €5,000 | Lamborghini Urus, Lamborghini Huracán EVO, Lamborghini Huracán Performante, Ferrari Portofino Blue, Bentley Continental GT, Audi R8, Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG, Mercedes-Benz G400, Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG Brabus 800, Tesla Cybertruck |
| Stated in the confirmation | Every other car in the fleet |
Most of the cars with a deposit of €4,000 or €5,000 also have a set price per extra kilometre, €4 or €5, above the 150 km per day included in every rate. Each car page, for example the Lamborghini Urus, shows its own deposit when it is set.
How is the deposit held and released, step by step?
The deposit follows the rental from the first message to the collection. Nothing is taken through the website, and every amount is in writing before the car is handed over, so the steps below hold no surprises for you or for us:
- Your booking confirmation states the rate, the deposit and the insurance excess for the car you chose.
- At handover the deposit is held on the main driver's credit card, and the rental agreement is signed.
- The car arrives fuelled, valeted and photographed, so its condition at the start of the rental is on record.
- When you finish, we collect the car from wherever you are and check it.
- After the check the deposit is released.
How long the released amount takes to show again as available on your card depends on your bank, because the bank processes the release on its side. If you need the card's full limit soon after the rental, tell us when you book and plan the dates with that in mind.
How is the deposit different from the insurance excess?
The insurance excess is the part of the cost of damage that stays with the renter under the comprehensive insurance included in every rate. Like the deposit, it depends on the model, and it is stated in your booking confirmation before you pay anything, so you know both figures before the car leaves.
Insurance itself is part of the price for any rental length. The European Union's Your Europe portal explains that every rental vehicle must be covered by third party liability insurance valid in all EU countries, and that this insurance should be included in the rental price. Our rates go further and include comprehensive insurance as well.
Which costs are settled at the end of the rental?
Some charges depend on what happens while the car is with you, so they are settled once it comes back. Our terms of service state that these charges, such as additional kilometres or refuelling, are set out in your rental agreement before you sign it, and that traffic fines and tolls remain the renter's together with the cost of processing them.
The fuel rule is full to full: the car arrives with a full tank and comes back full, and if it is easier we refuel it for you at the pump price. The kilometre allowance is 150 km per day, which makes 1,050 km for a week and 4,500 km for a month.
How do you get the whole deposit released without questions?
The aim is that every rental ends with a simple check at the door and a fully released deposit. These habits keep it that way, and each of them comes straight from the rules written in the rental agreement you sign at handover:
- return the car with a full tank, or ask us to refuel it at the pump price;
- keep to the allowance of 150 km per day, or agree a longer route in advance;
- let only the drivers named in the agreement drive the car;
- tell us before driving to Gibraltar or Portugal, so the trip is arranged with the insurer;
- remember that ferry crossings to Morocco, track days and driving courses are not permitted on any car in the fleet.
For rentals of 30 days or more the same rules apply, and the long-term rental page shows the monthly rates by category. If you would like the deposit for a particular car before you book, write to us on WhatsApp or through the contact page and we will reply the same day.
