Land Rover Defender rental in Marbella: what to take instead
MARBIORA has no Land Rover Defender in its Marbella fleet and does not promise to find one. The closest cars are the Mercedes-Benz G400 at €650 a day, the Mercedes-AMG G63 at €850 and the Range Rover Sport at €500. All seat five and include comprehensive insurance and 150 km a day.

Land Rover Defender rental in Marbella is not something MARBIORA can offer: the model is not in our fleet, and we do not promise to find you one. What we do rent are three five-seat SUVs that can stand in for it, depending on what drew you to the Defender: the Range Rover Sport at €500 a day, the Mercedes-Benz G400 at €650 and the Mercedes-AMG G63 at €850.

What is the current Land Rover Defender?
- The Land Rover Defender is
- an SUV launched on 10 September 2019 at the Frankfurt Motor Show and built in Nitra, Slovakia, according to Wikipedia's page on the Land Rover Defender L663. It replaced the first generation of 1983 to 2016 and changed how the car is built: an aluminium unibody, meaning the body also does the job of the chassis, instead of a body bolted to a separate frame.
Land Rover sells it in three lengths, called 90, 110 and 130. We use the 110 as our yardstick, with five doors and 5, 6 or 7 seats depending on the version. The 2025 Land Rover Defender technical specification, the UK edition, lists it at 5,018 mm long with the spare wheel and 4,758 mm without.
Which car in the fleet is closest to a Defender?
The Mercedes-Benz G400 comes closest on shape and engine figures, while the Range Rover Sport is the only one from the same brand. Wikipedia on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class describes a boxy car with body-on-frame construction and three fully locking differentials, built in Graz since 1979. Your pick depends on what you wanted from the car in the first place:
- the tall, square silhouette: the Mercedes-Benz G400 in Marbella, or the G63 with the same body;
- a six-cylinder diesel: the G400, with 700 Nm;
- a petrol V8 and quicker acceleration: the Mercedes-AMG G63, with 585 hp;
- the Land Rover badge: the Range Rover Sport, with 530 hp;
- the lowest price of the three: the Range Rover Sport again, at €500 for one day.
How do they compare with the Defender on factory figures?
The Defender 110 spans a wide power range, from 249 to 635 hp, and each car in our fleet lands at a different point on that scale. Rows for the Defender and the Range Rover Sport come from Land Rover's own sheets. The G-Class engines come from Wikipedia, and their 0 to 100 km/h times from our fleet data.
| Car | Engine | Power | Torque | 0 to 100 km/h | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Defender 110 D250 | Diesel, 6 cylinders, 2,997 cc | 249 hp | 570 Nm | 8.3 s | 5, 6 or 7 |
| Defender 110 D350 | Diesel, 6 cylinders, 2,997 cc | 350 hp | 700 Nm | 6.4 s | 5, 6 or 7 |
| Defender 110 P425 | Petrol, V8, 5,000 cc | 425 hp | 550 Nm | 5.8 s | 5, 6 or 7 |

G400 against the Defender 110 D350
The G400 and the Defender 110 D350 match on two key figures: both are listed at 700 Nm and 6.4 seconds to 100 km/h, each from a six-cylinder diesel. The D350 has 20 hp more. On paper there is very little between them, which is why the G400 is our first suggestion if you came looking for a diesel Defender.
G63 against the Defender 110 P425 and OCTA
The Mercedes-AMG G63 sits between the two V8 Defenders in the table. Against the P425 it adds 160 hp and 300 Nm and takes 1.4 seconds off the sprint to 100 km/h. The OCTA, the most powerful Defender 110, has 50 hp more than the G63 and is 0.4 seconds quicker, though its torque stops at 750 Nm against 850 Nm.

Range Rover Sport against the V8 Defender
The Range Rover Sport is the route if you want to stay with Land Rover and can accept a lower body. The P530 in the fleet uses a 4,395 cc V8, the same displacement as the Defender OCTA. The 2026 Range Rover Sport technical specification gives 530 hp, 4.5 seconds and a 250 km/h top speed, against 425 hp, 5.8 seconds and 191 km/h for the P425.

How big is each one?
Size separates these cars more than their engines do, above all in height and boot space. The G-Class and the Defender both stand close to 1,970 mm tall, while the Range Rover Sport sits about 150 mm lower. Where a figure is missing from the source we checked, the table says so instead of guessing at a number.
| Measurement | Defender 110 | G-Class (W463) | Range Rover Sport |
|---|---|---|---|
| Length | 5,018 mm with spare wheel, 4,758 mm without | 4,725 to 4,817 mm | 4,946 mm |
| Width | 2,008 mm, mirrors folded | 1,931 mm | 2,047 mm, mirrors folded |
| Height | 1,972 mm on coil springs, 1,967 mm on air suspension | 1,969 mm | 1,822 mm maximum |
| Boot with 5 seats | 786 litres | Not in the source | 647 litres |
| Maximum wading depth | 850 mm on coil springs, 900 mm on air suspension | Not in the source | 900 mm |
The G-Class figures belong to the second-generation W463, the one Wikipedia lists with the G 400 d engine. The same source gives up to 4,873 mm of length for the W465 generation sold from 2024. Boot volumes are the dry measurement Land Rover publishes, and the Defender figure is for the five-seat version.
How much does each alternative cost to rent in Marbella?
The Range Rover Sport is the cheapest at every step, and the 2024 G63 costs €350 a day more for one or two days. All three are delivered and collected free in Marbella, Puerto Banús or Málaga Airport. We give no Defender price because we do not rent one, so every figure below belongs to a car you can book.
| Rental length | Range Rover Sport | Mercedes-Benz G400 | Mercedes-AMG G63 (2024) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 day | €500 | €650 | €850 |
| 2 days, per day | €500 | €650 | €850 |
| 3 to 6 days, per day | €450 | €600 | €800 |
| 7 to 14 days, per day | €425 | €550 | €750 |
| 15 to 30 days, per day | €425 | €550 | €750 |
| 30 days or more, per day | €350 | €450 | €600 |
| Deposit | €4,000 | €5,000 | €5,000 |
| Extra kilometre | €4 | €5 | €5 |
Seven days come to €2,975 in the Range Rover Sport, €3,850 in the G400 and €5,250 in the G63. Over 30 days, those totals rise to €10,500, €13,500 and €18,000. Our comparison G400 or G63 AMG in Marbella also covers three more G63 units, from €800 for one day, with multi-day rates confirmed in writing.
What if you need the seven seats a Defender can offer?
None of the three alternatives has a third row, because the G400, the G63 and the Range Rover Sport all seat five. For six or seven people, the Marbella fleet has the seven-seat Mercedes-Benz V-Class, a 237 hp diesel at €500 for one day and €350 a day from 30 days, with a €4,000 deposit.
Before you miss the Defender 110's third row, look at its numbers. Land Rover offers that row only with specific packs and lists a maximum of 517 mm of legroom there, against 975 mm in the second row of the same layout. Behind the third row you get 160 litres of boot space, according to the same technical sheet.
Do these alternatives work if you plan to leave the tarmac?
If you plan to leave the tarmac, ask us before you book and describe the exact route. Land Rover publishes 900 mm of wading depth on air suspension for both the Defender 110 and the Range Rover Sport. Its off-road clearance figure is 293 mm for the Defender and 280 mm for the petrol Range Rover Sport.
Those figures describe what the manufacturer claims for the car, and they are not permission under a rental contract. Some rules are fixed for every car in the fleet: no track days, no driving courses, no competition use and no ferry to Morocco. Trips to Gibraltar or Portugal need to be agreed with the insurer first, so mention them when you book.
What does the rate include and what do you need to drive?
Every rate includes comprehensive insurance for any rental length, free delivery and collection in Marbella, Puerto Banús and Málaga Airport, a full clean before handover and 150 km a day, which adds up to 1,050 km a week and 4,500 km a month. Fuel is extra, on a full-to-full basis. Sotogrande is possible on request.
Every driver must be 25 or older and have held a licence for at least three years, and must also show a passport or ID card. The deposit is blocked on a credit card in the main driver's name and released once the car has been returned and checked, so it is never charged. Licences issued outside the EU also need an International Driving Permit.
How do you book one of these alternatives?
Booking takes one message and one written confirmation, and nothing is charged on the website. The minimum rental is one day, and no car in the fleet has an hourly rate. If you would rather not drive, a chauffeur can be arranged with any of the three. The process has five steps:
- Choose the car and your dates on the page of the model that suits you.
- Send the car, dates, time, delivery address and each driver's name by WhatsApp, phone, email or through the MARBIORA contact page.
- Receive availability, the total price, the deposit and the insurance excess in writing the same day.
- Take the car at your villa, hotel, marina or the Málaga Airport terminal, with a full tank.
- At the end, the car is collected wherever you are and the deposit is released after the check.
If you were after a diesel Defender, start with the G400, the alternative with the closest numbers. If it is the badge you want, the Range Rover Sport costs €150 less than the G400 for one or two days. Send us your dates and your route, and you will have a written answer the same day.
